The Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences was one of the
founding Faculties at UWA, and has offered comprehensive coverage of the Arts
for almost a century. In the Schools of Humanities, Music, and Social & Cultural Studies, the Faculty's 135 academic staff provide teaching and research expertise in the following areas:
The Faculty has approximately 3,500 students, of whom 10% are
Higher Degree by Research students and 11% are international students.
Faculty staff generated $2.4 million in research income in
2007, receiving four prestigious Australian Research
Council (ARC) Discovery Project grants as well as three staff members being involved with collaborative Discovery Project grants at other Universities.

NewsThe University of Western Australia has been awarded a new national chair of Australian Literature, which will be based at the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
Congratulations to Daniel Erickson, whose PhD is to be published in March 2009 as a monograph by Palgrave Macmillan as Ghosts, Metaphor, and History in Toni Morrison's Beloved and Gabriel García Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude.
Congratulations to winners of Early Career Scholars Publication Grants (May 2008 Round) - Dr Robert Faulkner (Music), Dr Victoria Rogers (Music), Dr Jacqueline Van Gent (Social and Cultural Studies), Dr Susie Protschky (Humanities), Dr Kate O'Shaughnessy (Humanities). Recipients will receive funding to assist with the publication of their monographs.
